about

Somewhere around Fall of 1988 John, Louis and Scott realized they might be able to figure out how to replicate the skate punk that had dominated their walkmans over the summer. We started fumbling around with instruments and some deeply awkward lyric ideas while waiting for Louis to heal up from a skateboard injury - recording simple songs to boombox, then recording that tape back to itself on another boombox to add vocals. After a couple of shows at a Chapel Hill punk rock teen center, we pulled a set together and recorded a handful of material with the legendary (and probably very exasperated) Jerry Kee in Raleigh sometime around 1989 which became our first demo cassette. Soon after, Bruce joined the lineup, Family Fest Records in Charlotte offered to do a 7", and we were jettisoned into the laborious world of "local obscure punk band" (a universe some of us inhabit to this day). Hundreds of shows, 2 more 7"s, and two tours with Assfactor 4 later, we had found a "sound", not unlike the midtempo guitar-heavy strained emotional hardcore happening at the same time in places like Washington DC and San Diego. In 1994 we went into Caleb Southern's studio to record what would eventually be the LP released by Assorted Porkchops Records several months after the band had exploded into a thousand angry pieces, one of which ended up being the band Eagle Bravo. 500 copies sold out quickly, and the recording has been been somewhat lost in the ether ever since.
